____ If desired, student should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through the Financial Aid office.
____ Activate computer account through Computer Services. There is also an online Technical FAQ for Parents.
____ Student should contact the Registrar's Office for TSI/THEA status information. If your student is not exempt from THEA, he/she
must take the THEA or an alternative test BEFORE seeing an Academic Advisor or registering for classes.
____ Apply for on-campus housing through Residence Life.

____ Get information on First Year Experience programs such as SAM 136 or the Bearkat and Freshman Learning Communities

____ Submit official college transcripts (upon course completion) of any dual credit/college coursework taken during or after
high school. (Beginning Freshmen only)
____ Your student must meet with an academic advisor in the Student Advising and Mentoring (SAM ) Center. It is highly recommended
that students meet with their advisor BEFORE attending Freshman or Transfer Orientation.
____ Sign up for New Student Orientation (parents too!).
____ Register for classes using Sam Web.
____ Take picture for Bearkat OneCard (student ID). Student MUST have a valid, government issued photo ID to get card.
____ Take the Academic Coach skills and interests assessment.
____ Pay tuition and fees by the deadline stated on the student's fee statement. Payment is made through the Cashier's Office.
____ Make sure a final high school or college transcript is sent to Sam Houston after graduation or the last semester in attendance.
