Weeding Borges' Garden

Dr. Melissa Morphew's Weeding Borges' Garden has been accepted for publication by Turning Point Press. She projects a publication date of 2009 or 2010.

Morphew’s latest book, “Fathom,” will be released in April 2006 by Turning Point Press, and she is currently working on a book based on her mother’s 1947 home economics book “Every Day Living For Girls.” Her current project will include poems not only from the book chapters, but poems inspired by famous women in history and “things that have fallen through the cracks.”

Sexuality and Spirituality in the Novels of Lee Smith

Dr. Cook With Lee Smithat her mountain cabin in NC

Dr. Linda Byrd Cook's Sexuality and Spirituality in the Novels of Lee Smith has been accepted for publication by McFarland & Co. Linda projects a publication date of Spring 2009.

Dr. Cook will be on faculty development leave to complete the book during the Fall 2008 semester.

Research Enhancement

Dr. April Shemak's Research Enhancement proposal has been funded by SHSU's Research and Special Programs. Congratulations Dr. Shemak!

 

Prestigious Appointment

The English Department's very own Dr. Robert Adams has been asked to serve a four-year term as Director of the International Piers Plowman Society (IPPS).

According to their website, the IPPS "oversees publication of The Yearbook of Langland Studies (YLS), sponsors sessions at the International Congresses at Kalamazoo, MI and Leeds, UK; organizes international conferences on Piers Plowman; and maintains this website, which includes information on these activities and a searchable database of the annual annotated bibliographies published in YLS."

Cleaning the Well: Poems Old and New

Dr. Paul Ruffin's sixth collection of poetry Cleaning the Well: Poems Old and New will be published by Plains Press this year.

SHSU Writing Project

The SHSU Writing Project has received a continuation grant from the National Writing Project, which will allow the program to continue through June 30, 2009. Dr. Bridges, Professor and Chair of the Department of English, and Nancy Votteler from the Departmant of Language, Literacy, and Special Populations are Co-Directors of the project.
