UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM

submitted by: Melissa A. Templeton

Melissa Templeton was able to represent Sam Houston State University at Prairie View, Texas, during the Undergraduate Research Symposium. According to Melissa, the ceremony began by introducing the day’s events, and the purpose of the symposium. The purpose was to present research that has and is being conducted. A couple of the lectures discussed safer sexual practices at the university level and Sickle Cell Anemia. The ability to observe these presentations brought awareness of what to expect when presenting research. The main speaking event of the day introduced a guest lecturer who discussed his research dealing with the use of drugs and ethnic minorities. He demonstrated confidence and ease interacting with the audience. Melissa’s presentation regarding her research in, Usage of In and Out of School Suspension in Students with Behavioral Disorders was very successful. Everyone was very interested in the research being conducted at Sam Houston State. The poster presentation received First Place in the Undergraduate Research Symposium.  “The experience was a once in a lifetime event. I was able to better my skills in presenting at the conference level. I was very appreciative to represent Sam Houston State University and to bring home another win,” said Melissa. Back
