Our goal is to create a campus community in which students with disabilities are able to participate fully in university programs and activities, and are valued as contributing members to SHSU.

  • Coordinating academic accommodations
  • Adaptive technology lab

Recreational Sports & Activities

The mission of Recreational Sports at Sam Houston State University is to encourage active healthy lifestyles, foster leadership development, instill an appreciation for diversity, and enhance self-concept and inter-personal relationships. The Department achieves this by providing safe, purposeful and enjoyable activities and facilities with emphasis on students and the University community.

Student Activities

The Department of Student Activities strives to cultivate intellectual and holistic growth among a diverse student body in a fun and safe environment by promoting academic success and leadership development to encourage students to become productive members of society. We also support the university's mission by providing services and programs while fostering student learning both in and out of the classroom.

To fulfill our mission, the Department of Student Activities is committed to the following core values:

Accountable members overseeing all areas and effectively functioning together to achieve a goal.
Adhering to a professional code of ethics regardless of the circumstances.
Being consistent in the treatment of others and with your actions in all aspects of the job.
Effectively exchanging verbal and nonverbal information through listening to others and conveying pertinent information. This is important to maintain harmony within the office and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Student Legal & Mediation Services

The Students’ Legal and Mediation Services office is located in the Lowman Student Center, suite 33. The student’s legal advisor has scheduled hours that allow students with various schedules to easily obtain an appointment by calling (936) 294-1717. Brochures concerning specific legal issues are also available for registered students.

The advisor often helps students with legal problems by guiding them through self-help procedures and providing written materials concerning their legal issues. By guiding the student through the procedures required in administrative and judicial proceedings, it is anticipated that the student will be able to effectively deal with these problems currently and in the future. However, when the problem is of such a nature that legal representation is immediately needed, referral to several practicing attorneys in that area of law is made.

All matters between the students’ legal advisor and the student are confidential. Some areas of student concern are landlord/tenant issues, consumer protection, insurance, crime, family law, traffic tickets, automobile accidents, and employee rights.
