Houston, Texas – February 18, 2017

Submitted by: Abigail Perez, Sigma Alpha Iota President

The purpose of this event was for SAI chapter members to unite for a day of sisterhood activities, musical performances, and guest speakers. The three local province chapters included: Beta Theta - Sam Houston State University, Beta Pi - University of Houston, and Lambda Zeta - Prairie View A&M. The event began with a formal opening ceremony, followed by a pledging ceremony for the University of Houston members, in which 9 new members were introduced. After the ceremonies, Province members had an opportunity to network with one another.SAI 1

Leslie Odom Miller, DMA was the guest speaker. She gave a presentation on the topic of the bond of sisterhood and how to maintain morale and chapter unity. She also spoke about philanthropic work through SAI Philanthropies, Inc., and leadership opportunities in the fraternity and all the options members have to continue as members after graduating. Later, she participated in a Q&A session, in which all members had an opportunity to ask questions, take pictures with the fraternity president and make a connection. The sisters at University of Houston then performed a musical. The pieces were all by American Composers and considered a composition of high merit. Then, after the lecture, participants played in an informal SAI Jeopardy game designed to test members’ knowledge of the fraternity and all its aspects. SHSU SAI chapter members competed and won during this event.

Overall, being able to attend this event, was beneficial because it gave members an opportunity to connect with other SAI Province members, which is helpful when it comes time to apply for jobs or internships.
