Atlanta, Georgia – February 3-5, 2017

Submitted by: Akia Britton, Executive VP, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity

The Principled Business Leadership Institute is Alpha Kappa Psi’s premier learning and leadership experience designed for all individuals seeking to enhance their professional development. The Principled Business Leadership Institute offers three unique programs: Leadership Pathway (educational sessions), Officer Training (chapter operational learning), and Case Competition (business challenge). All members attend “Leadership Pathway,” which is a series of sessions that educate members about topics such as branding and networking. Attendees also had the opportunity to have their resumes critiqued by professional recruiters. Officer training sessions help chapter officers understand how to effectively run the organization, and case competition requires members to find a social problem and make a business plan to solve the issue.222013_PBLI 3

During PBLI, there were several different speakers, most were alumni members of Alpha Kappa Psi. During the closing ceremony, Kyle Porter, Founder and CEO of SalesLoft gave a very inspiring speech about how he created his value based company. SalesLoft sells software to sales companies and has six core values: positive, supportive, self-starting, open, empathetic, and exceptional. Mr. Porter advised attendees to “seek a mentor to learn, experiment with different businesses, and to leave behind people who are bums.”

SHSU chapter participants had the opportunity to attend officer training specifically designed for their positions. They learned how to manage their responsibilities within their organization, how to perform effectively, and ways they can use their position to improve the chapter. Members also attended the Leadership Pathway sessions which provided an opportunity to meet and network with brothers from other chapters, gain valuable information and advice in regards to branding their chapter, and discover how leading professionals were able to become established in the business world.
