SHSU students attended the Bridges Vision 2016 Conference which hosted over 600 college students from around the world. During the New Year’s Eve Talent Show, various participants shared their talents through song and dance. This year’s confe219604_IMG_0911rence theme, “What is Your Destiny,” offered exploring and touring opportunities: NASA, St. Augustine Group games, and team building exercises. It also provided an ideal opportunity to help international students at Sam find an encouraging community, increase pride in their school, and become more involved in local campus events as well as other state and nationwide events, and develop leadership skills they can take back to their home countries. The guest speaker was General Charles Duke, Former Astronaut for NASA, Retired U.S. Air Force Officer, and Engineer.

As the student president of Bridges International at SHSU, “I thought the conference provided a perfect medium to talk to student leaders at other schools. These conversations helped me learn how to be a better leader on the SHSU campus,” shared Corey Dennis. According to Corey, he was able to attend sessions specifically designed for leaders and learned helpful ways to grow as an organization, and how to culturally understand international students from all over the world. One of the faculty members, Stan Solomon and his wife Esha, shared their life story with the students. Since many people were touched by their story, they were asked to lead a session for next year's Visions conference to be held in Washington D.C. SHSU international students that attended the conference represented various countries. Each of these students were able to learn from one another and return to campus with a memorable, and multi-cultural experience.
