SAMentors is a mentoring and leadership organization sponsored by Multicultural Student Services (MSS) and the Department of Student Activities. The purpose of SAMentors is to aid the social and academic transitions of freshman and transfer student into college life at Sam Houston State University. Within the SAMentors program, incoming freshman and transfer students are paired with upperclassmen students that guide them throughout their first year through various programming events. The goal of the organization is to maintain freshmen and transfer student retention as members are encouraged to continue to become involved after their first year at SHSU as mentors in the organization.  SAMentor Protégés (freshmen and transfer students) learn valuable leadership skills by being lead first by their mentors.
