General Information

What can I do there?

  • Merit Badge Day will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015.
  • Troops who participate in Merit Badge Day can also choose to spend the weekend at Huntsville State Park which has campsites and shelters that can meet any needs.

How much does Scouts@SAM cost?  What do I get for that fee?
Registration for Merit Badge Day is $35 per Scout.  This includes:

  • continental breakfast
  • merit badge classes
  • all-you-can-eat lunch at Old Main Market (off-campus courses will receive a box lunch)
  • commemorative patch

Merit Badge Day

What merit badges are available? 
We offer a wide array of both full day classes and half day classes. This list is tentative. Our actual offerings may differ. Our full day classes might include; Animal Science, Auto Maintenance, Chemistry, Citizenship In The Community, Citizenship In The Nation, Citizenship In The World, Communication, Cooking, Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, Golf, Music, Orienteering, Radio, Robotics, Search & Rescue, and Textile. Our Half day classes will consist of 2 sessions, a morning session before lunch and an afternoon session. Our morning sessions will consist of Collections and Crime Prevention and our afternoon sessions will consist of Traffic Safety and Fingerprinting.

Prerequisite and other course information will be posted as they are announced by the instructors. Check back frequently for updates.

Session Merit Badges Prerequisites
Full Day Animal Science No prerequisites.
Full Day Auto Maintenance Complete requirement 12 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss. Requirement 11 will not be covered.
Full Day Chemistry No prerequisites.
Full Day Citizenship in the community Complete requirements 3, 7, and 8 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss.  Bring a map of your community.
Full Day Citizenship in the nation Complete requirements 2d, 3, 6, and 8 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss. 
Full Day Citizenship in the world No prerequisites.
Full Day Cooking No prerequisites.
Full Day Communication Complete requirements 1a, 1b, 3, 5, and 7 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss. Requirement 8 will not be completed.
Full Day Emergency Preparedness  Complete requirements 2c and 9a before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss. Requirements 1, 7, and 8 will not be completed.
Full Day First Aid Complete requirement 2d before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss.
Full Day Golf No prerequisites. Bring your personal golf clubs, balls, and tees ready to play. 
Full Day Music Complete requirement 3 and bring your instrument.
Full Day Orienteering No prerequisites.
Full Day Radio No prerequisites.
Full Day Robotics No prerequisites.
Full Day Search and Rescue Complete requirement 5 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss.
Full Day Textile  Bring a scrap of cloth to class.
Half Day A.M. Collections Complete requirements 1 and 8 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss.  Bring your collection.
Half Day A.M. Crime Prevention Complete requirements 2 and 4 before Scouts@Sam; bring to class ready to discuss.Requirement 7 will not be covered. 
Half Day P.M. Fingerprinting No prerequisites.
Half Day P.M. Traffic Safety No prerequisites.

Is adult training available?
Yes.  We are offering online (myscouting.org) training this year. There is no cost.

Do the classes last all day?
Scouts@Sam emphasizes quality of instruction, so most classes do last all day.  We will offer three “drop-off” merit badges and a few half-day courses.  Times will be posted on the registration page.

What are the hours for the merit badge day?
7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

When can I register for merit badge classes?
Online registration will be available in the spring.

Can I register and pay for classes at the event?
All Scouts must register HERE and pay for their class(es) online during March.  We cannot accept walk-in registrations.

Can individual Scouts register?
Absolutely.  If your troop can’t come, you’re still welcome.

How will I know what merit badge requirements my Scout completed?
Each Scout will receive a record of completed requirements.
