What can I do there?
There are two programs to choose from:
- Merit Badge Day will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014.
- Troops who participate in Merit Badge Day can also choose to spend the weekend at Huntsville State Park which has campsites and shelters that can meet any needs.
How much does Scouts@SAM cost? What do I get for that fee?
Registration for Merit Badge Day is $35 per Scout. This includes:
- continental breakfast
- merit badge classes
- all-you-can-eat lunch at Old Main Market (off-campus courses will receive a box lunch)
- commemorative patch
What merit badges are available?
We are offering a wide array of both full day classes and half day classes. Our full day classes will include; Animal Science, Auto Maintenance, Chemistry, Citizenship In The Community, Citizenship In The Nation, Citizenship In The World, Communication, Cooking, Emergency Preparedness, First Aid, Golf, Music, Orienteering, Radio, Robotics, Search & Rescue, and Textile. Our Half day classes will consist of 2 sessions, a morning session before lunch and an afternoon session. Our morning sessions will consist of Collections and Crime Prevention and our afternoon sessions will consist of Traffic Safety and Fingerprinting.
Do any of the classes have prerequisites? Is there any additional information about the merit badge class(es) I want to take?
Prerequisite and other course information will be posted as they are announced by the instructors. Check back frequently for updates.
Is adult training available?
Yes. We are offering Scoutmaster Specific, Texas Youth Protection Training, and online (myscouting.org) training this year. Adults can register online for these courses. There is no cost.
Do the classes last all day?
Scouts@Sam emphasizes quality of instruction, so most classes do last all day. We will offer three “drop-off” merit badges and a few half-day courses. Times will be posted on the registration page.
What are the hours for the merit badge day?
7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
When can I register for merit badge classes?
Online registration is available March 1-31.
Can I register and pay for classes at the event?
All Scouts must register HERE and pay for their class(es) online during March. We cannot accept walk-in registrations.
Can individual Scouts register?
Absolutely. If your troop can’t come, you’re still welcome.
How will I know what merit badge requirements my Scout completed?
Each Scout will receive a record of his accomplishments before leaving the merit badge day.
