Earth Week

SHSU EARTH DAY - WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19

DUE TO THE WEATHER, ALL EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE GENERAL'S MARKET ENTRANCE (NEW SOUTH SIDE DINING FACILITY) SEE YOU THERE!!!

Join Recreational Sports, Dining Services, Facilities Management, Residence Life, SHSU Dining and others as we work to make Sam Houston a more sustainable community.  Programs and activities are scheduled throughout the week. 


Schedule:

Stop by the mall for SHSU Earth Day. Several departments and organizations on campus will be out displaying information on how to be more responsible and contribute to a sustainable SHSU.

Come see an all-Electric BMW, learn more about how to be sustainable, and enter to win prizes! –sponsored by the RCEA Club.

Pot a Plant with Residence Life – April 19th, 11am – 2pm – LSC Mall

Need to green up your living space?  Stop by the Residence Life tent to pot a plant to take home with you.  Plants, pots, and soil will be provided (while supplies last).

Campus Tree Tour - 10 a.m. - LSC Front Stairs

Did you know SHSU has been recognized as a Tree Campus USA? Join the university Arborist, Evan Anderson to learn about all the different types of trees on campus.

Aramark-Veg Out With Plant Forward w/ SH Dining Services - 10 a.m.-2 p.m. - LSC Mall area

Visit the SH Dining table in the Mall area on April 19th to learn about the effects of meat based protein compared to plant based protein in the food chain and what each does to our earth.

SH Dining will also be educating students on our Waste & Production logs for proper food prep with minimal waste, and will have literature from General Mills on their sustainability efforts across the globe.

Take the Pledge with Facilities Management - 10 a.m.-2 p.m. - LSC Mall area

Learn about shredding, paper recycling, and energy efficiency tips from our friends in Facilities Management. Take the pledge and get a reusable grocery tote.

No Hammock Hangout - 4 - 6 p.m. - In front of the RSC

Did you know Hammocks can damage trees? No worries, a good time can be had by all.  Bring a friend and hang out, meet new people, slackline, play lawn games, some Frisbee, and chill. FREE for everyone!

Rock climbing = Strength+endurance+flexibility+mindful = Yoga. Two methods combined for the same goal. Space is limited. Register online at shsu.edu/fitness

Clothing Drive (through Finals Week):

Bins will be located outside the RSC and several Residence Halls. Get a start on your end of semester cleaning by contributing your textiles to a great cause.

Student Government Association:

In conjunction with Earth Day, we are having our annual Bearkat All Paws in service project.  Each year the Student Government Association has hosted the largest service project in the Walker County area, working with over 1500 students.  We go into the community, send students to various sites and volunteer. 

Staff Council Huntsville State Park Cleanup

In cooperation with the SGA All Paws In project on April 22, Staff Council will be going out to the Huntsville State Park to volunteer, clean up the park, and show appreciation for our area's beautiful natural resources. For information on participation, please email staffcouncil@shsu.edu.
