Museum Studies Internship 

Philadelphia Museum of Art

Description: The Museum Studies Internship Program is an unpaid volunteer internship opportunity that exposes interns to the inner workings of a major metropolitan museum, promoting an awareness of careers in the field through experiences not available in most academic settings. The Museum selects a diverse group of talented undergraduate and graduate students from a highly competitive, international pool of candidates. 

The program runs Monday through Friday, for nine weeks. The Internship is made up of two parts: Interns work for three and one-half days per week in a Museum department; one and one-half days a week they participate in a Museum Studies course. 

Interns are placed according to departmental needs that vary from year to year. In past summers, placements have included the following departments:

Eligibility: The Museum Studies Internship Program offers internships each summer to applicants who:

  • are currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students, or who have graduated within the same calendar year as the Internship;
  • have completed at least their sophomore year of college by the end of the 2012 spring semester; 
  • have maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Size of Grant: N/A; This is a volunteer internship program. Interns can receive course credit so long as they make arrangements with their respective colleges and universities. Interns are responsible for making their own housing arrangements.

CBC Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF)

Description: This scholarship program was developed in honor of the late Curtis Mayfield to ensure that students pursuing a career in the performing arts receive the financial assistance to achieve their goals. The performing arts include theater, motion pictures, drama, comedy, music, dance, opera, marching bands, and other musical ensembles.

Size of Grant: CBC will award up to $3,000 each for up to 10 students.

Hearst Corporation - WCVB-TV Boston

WCVB-TV recognizes that a good internship program can add practical experience to the education a student gains in college or graduate school. Therefore, the station has established an internship program in which students may work one semester and earn academic credit. There are a variety of internship opportunities available year-round to currently enrolled college juniors and seniors. Wilson Center Intership Opportunities

Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

The Center offers a wide range of internship opportunities to current, recent, or returning college students. There are at least 80-90 interns at the Center at any given time. Availability of positions generally corresponds to the beginning of the fall, spring and summer terms. Most internships are unpaid. The Woodrow Wilson Center has two different internship programs with separate applications and deadlines. Many interns are research assistants for our visiting scholars, contributing directly to research on a wide range of projects. Other interns work in staff and program offices. Wilson Center interns have the opportunity to develop both research and professional skills, and to participate in the numerous activities and events held at the Center.

National Academy of Social Insurance

Description: The sponsor seeks outstanding graduate and upper division undergraduate students to serve as interns on social insurance policy research and analysis projects in Washington, DC.

AAAS Internship Opportunity

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

Description: The sponsor offers a summer Minority Science Writers Internship program for minority students interested in journalism as a career and who want to learn about science writing.  Interns will experience what it is like to cover the scientific and technological issues that shape our global community.  The internship takes place at the Washington, DC headquarters of AAAS's Science magazine, the largest interdisciplinary journal in the world. The program is a paid, 10-week experience under the guidance of the weekly magazine's staff of professional science writers and editors.  Interns are expected to contribute to the weekly news section, including bylined articles in the print and electronic news service.

The Eric Breindel Collegiate Journalism Award

Breindel (Eric) Memorial Foundation

Description: The sponsor is looking for work which best reflects the spirit of Mr. Breindel's writings, love of country and its democratic institutions as well as the commitment to preserve the freedoms that allow such institutions to flourish. These themes are applicable to campus topics--personal experience or contemporary philosophical thought. 

Size of Grant: The winner will receive one prize of $10,000, plus a paid internship at either Fox News Channel, The Wall Street Journal, or The New York Post. Winners from outside of the New York City area will receive free housing for the duration of the internship position.

Edwina Eustis Dick Scholarship for Music Therapy Interns

American Music Therapy Assocation (AMTA)

Description: This scholarship program is for music therapy interns.  Eligibility: All undergraduate, undergraduate equivalency students and graduate students enrolled in a college or university program in music therapy approved by the American Music Therapy Association are eligible. All interns in clinical training are considered eligible through their parent academic institution. Applicants must be current Student Members of AMTA in the year in which they apply and the year in which it is granted.

Size of Grant: Two cash scholarships of $500 will be available for interns each year.

ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards

American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Foundation

Description: The awards are granted annually to encourage talented young jazz composers.

Only completely original music will be considered. Arrangements are not eligible. Compositions which have previously earned awards or prizes in major national or international competitions are ineligible.

This program was initiated in 2002 with support from the Joseph and Rosalie Meyer Fund and is also supported by the Gibson Foundation and The ASCAP Foundation Bart Howard Fund.

Size of Grant: The winning composers will share $25,000 in ASCAP Foundation Awards.
