About the Program
The Office of International Programs is sponsoring the Global Ambassadors Program (GAP) where domestic students are paired with international students to share cultural perspectives and ease international students’ transition into their lives here at Sam Houston State University. The Global Ambassadors Program will host several social events over the year to give students additional opportunities to interact and develop lasting friendships.
You can join at any time. Turn in the application ("Apply Here" button below) to Cassie Cure or Justin Ball (GAP advisors) in the Office of International Programs (Farrington 116)!
International Student Orientation (M 1/12, 11:40-1:00, Farrington 105)
Drop by International Student Orientation to welcome the new international students and talk about GAP! Have lunch with them at Old Main Market.
Welcome Pizza Party/Info. Session (TBD)
Baseball Game: SHSU vs. Baylor (T 3/17, 6:30 pm)
Easter Egg Hunt (F 3/27, 3:00-5:00 pm, Old Main Pit)
Bowling (TH 4/30, 6:00-8:00, Huntsville Lanes)
Conversation Cafe (starting Jan. 29, Thursdays from 3:00-4:00, LSC 329)
Come to Conversation Cafe to help international students practice their English. These are facilitated by GAP domestic students, FASS GAP (faculty and staff) members and OIP staff. Come when you can!
Welcome Reception (TH 9/4/14, 2-3 pm, OIP office):
Drop by the Office of International Programs (OIP) in Farrington 116 for snacks and mingling!
Tailgate (SA 9/13/14, 2:30-6:00 pm, game starts at 6:30):
Show your Bearkat Spirit! We will load everything into our OIP van at 2:30 if you would like to meet us in Farrington 116. Then, we'll drive to our spot in Bearkat Alley (spots C11-C13). Stop by to chat, eat snacks, play games and tailgate with us!

Meet & Greet Pizza Luncheon (F 10/17/14, 12:00-1:30, Farrington 209)
Drop by to have pizza with your buddy and get to know fellow GAP members.
Halloween Party (TH 10/30/14, 7:00-9:00 pm, Kat Klub in LSC)
This event is co-hosted by ISO (International Student Organization) and is an opportunity for GAPers to showcase a few Halloween traditions through a costume contest, drawing on a balloon contest, spooky games, billiards and ping pong, and chow down on pizza and candy. Make sure to RSVP!
Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch (M 11/24/14, 11:30-1:00, Family Faith Church gym)
One thing that the majority of cultures share is the love of good food! Come bring a dish and make sure to RSVP!
Christmas Party (M 12/15/14, 6:00-8:00 pm, Elkins Lake Baptist Church)
A Christmas celebration with an emphasis on Christmas in American culture, led by FASS GAP members (faculty and staff) and the church community. Make sure to RSVP by 5:00 pm on Dec. 5th. Transportation to and from event is provided.
