Costa Rica Spanish Language Field School
Students will have the unique opportunity to earn college credit in Costa Rica.
Sam Houston professors will teach courses on the lovely campus of CONVERSA, a language school with 40 years of experience, near Santa Ana, in the country’s central valley.
With an extraordinary biodiversity, Costa Rica is notable for its fertile land and frequent rainfall. In addition, this nation’s record on the environment and human rights gives it weight in world affairs beyond its size. Students will visit sites of historical, economic and cultural importance.

- *SPAN 2311: Intermediate Spanish I
- *SPAN 2312: Intermediate Spanish II
- SPAN 3369: Conversational Spanish II
- SPAN 4370: Seminar: Selected Topics: Literature and Society in Costa Rica
- *SPAN 2311 and 2312 must be taken concurrently.
Students must have taken SPAN 1411 & SPAN 1412 (Elementary Spanish I & II). Follow all safety procedures and suggestions by the CONVERSA staff including area curfews and traveling regulations.
Students will be participating in a Homestay Program where they will live with a family while in Costa Rica. Transportation will be provided from the host families to the campus.
Students will schedule their own independent flights to Costa Rica. Transportation will be provided from the airport to the host families.
$2150 (Add $100 if you sign up between December 13, 2013 and March 1, 2014; add $ 200 if you sign up on March 2, 2014 or later.)
Includes: Lodging with a family; all meals; shuttle service from Santa Ana to classes; field trip to museum in San Jose; 3 field trips near Santa Ana; 1 weekend trip; weekly yoga, singing, Latin dance, extra grammar, cooking classes, and opportunities for community service; wireless internet.
Not Included: Tuition & fees (summer semester)*, $200 study abroad service fee, airfare, health insurance, spending money
*Note: Faculty-led, out-of-country courses do not charge 3 fees: Rec Center, Student Center and Health Center=$275, as opposed to on-campus courses.
