Employment Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The measure of a Life is its Service. Sam Houston State University Motto

Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Plan Employer. Meeting meaningful goals for diversity, equity and inclusion is key for the success of the University community. SHSU is committed to promoting diversity and inclusiveness on campus, and to providing a safe, supportive workplace for all faculty, staff and students. We will recognize and thoughtfully consider our differences in order to foster an environment that consistently offers the following:

Diversity: All staff and faculty demonstrating acceptance of and respect for others, even when we have different experiences, such as military, religious, cultural or educational, or when we have different abilities, ideas, perspectives and approaches, language skills or communication styles, socioeconomic backgrounds or originate from different geographic regions.

Equity: All qualified applicants and employees receiving consideration for employment or promotion without regard to race, creed, ancestry, marital status, citizenship, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, veteran status, disability status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Inclusion: A more adaptable, competitive and innovative environment, with a wider range of skills and solutions to meet the challenges we face. SHSU takes seriously the initiative to make the needed extra efforts to remedy the areas of underutilization in our Affirmative Action Plan. SHSU’s Staffing Team works with the Diversity Coordinator and all departments to attract and retain a diverse faculty and staff.

Diversity at SHSU includes all characteristics and experiences of every member of our community.  It is reflected in our thinking and our actions.  We will work together to capitalize on this diversity for the benefit of all of our constituents.

At SHSU, we are all Bearkats. And Bearkats can consistently:
