Now is the time when you should be thinking about money—where you’re going to get it and how you’re going to use it.  There are important deadlines and events that will help you get your finances in order.

Deadlines

February 1: Priority Deadline for Scholar X

If you haven’t already submitted your Scholar X application, you still have time to do so depending on your major.  Applications are no longer being considered for the Colleges of Education and Criminal Justice, but the College of Business Administration has a deadline of February 20 and the Sociology Department has a deadline of March 15.  Scholar X closes on May 1.

March 15: FAFSA Priority Deadline for the 2014-2015 school year

Events

February 24-27: Financial Literacy Week

Learn how to thrive financially.  Through a variety of speakers and workshops, you’ll learn how to budget, save, and make your money work for you.  Scholarships and giveaways will be awarded based on your attendance to the events offered during this week.  For more information, visit https://www.shsu.edu/dept/smmc/FinancialLiteracyWeek.html#.

March 3: FAFSA Workshop from 5pm-6pm in Olson Auditorium

If you want to receive financial aid, you’ll need to fill out a FAFSA each year.  Once you and your family have received the necessary documents, file your taxes by February 14 so that you can fill out and submit your FAFSA by the priority deadline.

If you are a international student or non-citizen, you may be eligible to be classified as a Texas resident for tuition purposes.  If so, you may be eligible to receive financial aid for the state by completing the TASFA.
