DEPARTMENT OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
 

  1. ELIZABETH ANDREWS ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full-time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and has at least a 2.5 overall grade point average.
  2. ARMY SPECIALIZED TRAINING PROGRAM UNIT 4814 ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full-time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and provides documentation of having earned part of their university expenses, has at least a 2.5 overall grade point average and is willing to perform 3 to 5 hours per week service in the Academic Enrichment Center.
  3. BRYAN BAKER INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full-time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, is seeking to become certified at the secondary level, demonstrates financial need and has at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  4. KAREN GAIL CRAWFORD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $5,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time student in good standing majoring in elementary education; be classified as a junior or senior; demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to teaching at the elementary level by providing a 500-word essay explaining why he/she wants to teach young children.  Overall GPA of 2.5 is required.  GPA of 3.0 in major is required. 
  5. DAVID CURLEE ENLOE SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 2.5 overall grade point average.
  6. M.B. AND EMMA ETHEREDGE SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a student who will be a freshman full-time undergraduate student, intends to become certified to teach, demonstrates financial need and brings a sound academic record from high school.
  7. ERMA KEEFER FARRIS ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and good character and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average. Preference will be given to students who are life-long residents of Walker County.
  8. TEMPLETON GRUY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN EDUCATION: This award of $1,000/semester is intended for a "non-tradition" female undergraduate student who is enrolled full time, admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 2.5 overall grade point average. (Requires a special one-to-two page essay describing the student's commitment to pursuing and obtaining teacher certification).
  9. ODELL WEATHERLY HALL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 2.5 overall grade point average.
  10. HERITAGE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates through letters of reference outstanding character and affiliation with an organized Christian religion, and maintains at least a 2.5 overall grade point average.
  11. JAMES L. AND BILLIE J. HICKMAN ENDOWED EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average and is involved in extra-curricular activities that broadens the recipients experiences and life skills.
  12. VALINE HOBBS ELEMENTARY EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be an undergraduate full-time student in good standing at Sam Houston State University and majoring in Elementary Education. GPA of 3.00 is required.
  13. SUSAN SCHEMBER HOLTKAMP ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student seeking elementary education certification who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  14. MARY COLLINS SANDEL SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who is seeking to be certified to teach at the elementary level, has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  15. ROBERT ERIC SCHULTZ MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: This award of $300/every 3rd year is intended for a full time undergraduate student of sophomore, junior or senior level who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.  This scholarship will be awarded next in the year 2008-2009.
  16. MRS. BLANCHE MILLER SHAW SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who is seeking elementary teacher certification and intends to teach first grade, admitted to the educator preparation programs, demonstrates through letters of reference high moral character and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  17. MATTIE SNEED ELEMENTARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student seeking to become certified to teach at the elementary level who has been admitted to the educator preparation program and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  18. SOUTHLAND SCHOLARS PROGRAM: This award of $1000/year is intended for a beginning freshman student who will be seeking to become a certified teacher. The student must have a 1200 SAT score and be in the top quarter of the high school graduating class. The student may continue to receive the scholarship for four years if the student maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  19. TEXAS SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR TEACHER EDUCATION: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average. The student must demonstrate through letters of reference high moral standards and that the student exemplifies qualities of maturity, community leadership and appreciation of country.
  20. CARRIE HERREN TOMLINSON SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student of junior or senior level who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need, demonstrates through letters of reference good character and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average. Preference is given to math educators.
  21. NELL ROWENA TUCKER ENDOWMENT FUND: Amount varies; Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing, majoring in elementary education, demonstrate financial need and maintain at least a 2.8 overall grade point average.
  22. SADYE GRACE WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  23. GIBBS A. AND LELA M. WYNNE SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has completed at least 60 hours, admitted to the educator preparation program and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average. Through letters of reference the student must demonstrate leadership, good moral character, intellectual curiosity, enterprise and initiative.
  24. MILTON GARRETT YORK, JR. ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
  25. JUANITA BROCK LIERMAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Amount unspecified. Recipient must be full-time student at SHSU, in good standing and seeking certification in elementary education. Recipient must also have been admitted to the Educator Preparation Program.
  26. ROBERT AND BILLIE LAROE TURNER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Amount unspecified. Scholarship to provide assistance to a student accepted into the teacher education program. Student must be in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University and demonstrate financial need. GPA requirement is 3.0.
  27. ELEANOR SMITH and CHARLES LEWIS GARRETT ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Amount varies; Recipients must be full-time junior, senior, or graduate students majoring in Education, preferably Elementary Education, and have one or more parent who is or was a teacher. 2.5 GPA requirement.
  28. KELLIE ANN (JENKINS) WHITLEY MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time junior or senior student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University, majoring in elementary education, demonstrate financial need, and be a Texas resident.  GPA of 2.80 is required.
  29. GREATER TEXAS FOUNDATION MATH AND SCIENCE TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP: $2,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University and specializing in science or mathematics teaching; demonstrate financial need.  GPA of 2.50 is required. 
  30. BILLY AND KATHY SMITH COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University, majoring in any discipline within the College of Education; be a graduate of a high school in Madison, Leon, or Houston counties.  First preference shall be given to Madison County graduates.  GPA of 3.00 is required.
  31. MARY ANN AND LOUIS MACEY ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate summer school student or a 5th year undergraduate athletic student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University and majoring in any discipline within the College of Education; be a member of the SHSU football team; and comply with NCAA requirements.  GPA of 3.00 is required.
  32. DEBORAH DAILEY KINCAID MEMORIAL ELEMENTARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: $2,500 per year. Recipient must be a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student in good standing, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies for elementary education teachers; have a minimum high school GPA of 2.8; be a graduate of Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Texas, or Grapeland High School in Grapeland, Texas.  Financial need is a consideration but not a determining factor.  GPA of 2.80 is required. 
  33. ESTELLA LONGORIA KORYCIAK SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing, majoring in any discipline within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; and demonstrate financial need.  GPA of 2.80 is required.
  34. BOBBY AND PATRICIA EZELL ENDOWED TEACHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time junior or senior student in good standing; be pursuing teacher certification at either the elementary or secondary level; be admitted to the educator preparation program; demonstrate financial need; have at the time of scholarship awarding and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.50.
  35. DR. GERALDINE E. HYNES SCHOLARSHIP FUND:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time senior in good standing, majoring in English or Speech communication with a minor in Secondary education.  GPA of 3.25 is required. 
  36. DONNA L. BETO SCHOLARSHIP IN ELEMENTARY EDUCATION:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time junior or senior student in good standing and studying to be an elementary teacher, demonstrate financial need.  GPA of 3.00 is required. 
  37. GEORGIA DONNA (JORDAN) MIZE MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing and majoring in interdisciplinary studies with the goal of teaching elementary school; demonstrate financial need; be from Tyler County.  GPA of 3.00 is required. 
  38. ROBERT AND ERIN STEELE EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $3,000 per year.  Recipient must demonstrate financial need; be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing; be seeding teacher certification and have been admitted to the educator preparation program; and be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.  GPA of 2.80 is required. 
  39. BOLEY F. & BETTY M O'BANNON COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing; major in education; pursue a degree in teaching.  GPA of 2.50 is required. 
  40. DR. FRANK P. LEATHERS MATH OR SCIENCE TEACHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP:  $14,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time incoming freshman student in good standing; majoring in math or one of the sciences (biology, chemistry, geology and geography, or physics) with a minor in secondary education seeking teacher certification; as a sophomore the recipient must qualify for admission to the Educator Preparation Program; juniors and seniors must be accepted to the Educator Preparation Program; be committed to teaching high school math or science; demonstrate strong financial need.  GPA of 2.50 is required. 
  41. DR. AND MRS. ADRIAN B. COOLEY SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time student in good standing; majoring or minoring in a Science; be seeking teacher certification; and demonstrate financial need.  GPA of 2.5 is required. 
  42. HELEN CALDWELL HOLM EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must demonstrate financial need; be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing; be seeking teacher certification in elementary or middle level education and have been admitted to the educator preparation program.  GPA of 2.5 is required. 
  43. J. CULLEN SOWERS AND JEANETTE VENZA SOWERS EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or part-time graduate student taking a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester in good standing and majoring in any discipline within the College of Education; be seeking educator certification.  GPA of 2.80 is required. 
  44. SCHOPPE FAMILY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing; majoring in any program within the College of Education.  GPA of 3.00 is required. 
  45. VICTORIA FAUTH BONGARD SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing; major in elementary education with an emphasis on English language arts and reading; be classified as a junior or senior; be seeking educator certification and have been admitted into the educator preparation program; and demonstrate financial need.  GPA of 3.00 is required. 
  46. MYRTLE HURLEY FRANKLIN SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing; major in mathematics or a science; be classified as a junior or senior; be seeking educator certification and have been admitted into the educator preparation program; and demonstrate financial need.  GPA of 3.00 is required. 
  47. RICKEY AND JULIE MARTIN EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF KYLEY A. HAMPTON:  $1000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate classified as a junior, senior or graduate student in good standing, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies, and be a member of Kappa Delta Pi Fraternity.  Financial need will be a consideration, but not a determining factor.  GPA of 3.75 is required.

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL, LEADERSHIP, & COUNSELING

  1. GENEVIEVE H. BROWN SCHOLARSHIP: $500 per year. Recipient must be in good standing at SHSU and majoring in the graduate counseling program and a member of Beta Kappa Tau Chapter of Chi Sigma lota. GPA requirement is 3.5.
  2. DR. EMILY DeFRANCE COUNSELING AND DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP: $400.00 per year. Recipient must be majoring in Counseling. Preference will be given to students with at least 5 graduate courses who express a commitment to enroll in play therapy course work. GPA requirements 3.75. Deadline date for application submission December 1st.
  3. JAMES O. MATHIS SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who has been accepted into the Graduate Counseling program at SHSU, has completed 30 semester credit hours in the graduate counseling program, who has shown potential for leadership, and is pursuing a licensure track.
  4. SHSU COUNSELING STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship for a student in good standing, enrolled at SHSU and majoring in Counseling. Recipient must be a candidate for a degree in Counseling. Financial need is a consideration, but not a determining factor in the selection process. There will be one or more awards to equal the cost of one to three courses. GPA requirement is 3.5.
  5. W. TOM THWEATT, III MEMORAL GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP: $5,000 per year. Recipient must be a graduate student enrolled in at least one three-hour graduate class, majoring in counseling. GPA requirement is 3.0.
  6. DR. CAROL LAING RITTER EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP FELLOWSHIP ENDOWMENT:  $1,000 per year.  The fellowship is a one year award of $1,000 to a full-time or part-time graduate student who is majoring in Educational Leadership who maintains an overall GPA of 3.5. 
  7. DR. JIMMY N. MERCHANT GRADUATE ENDOWMENT FUND SCHOLARSHIP:  An annual scholarship award to be disbursed half in fall and the remaining half in the spring semester. A recipient must (1) have a Master's Degree; (2) be accepted in to the Doctor of Education Leadership program at Sam Houston State University; (3) maintain an overall GPA of 3.5; and (4) demonstrate leadership.
  8. EMILY OE COUNSELING AND DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP:  $400 per year. A recipient myst (1) be a student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University majoring in counseling; and (2) maintain an overall GPA of 3.75. Preference will be given to students with at least five graduate courses who express a commitment to enroll in play therapy course work.
  9. DR GENEVIEVE H. BROWN AND DR. BEVERLY J. IRBY ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP:  A minimum of $1,000 each, to be disbursed (half in the fall and the remaining half in the spring semester.) A recipient must (1) be a full-time or part-time graduate student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University and majoring in Educational Leadership and Counseling; and (2) maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. Financial need will be a consideration, but not a determining factor. Preference will be given to a recipient who is conducting research or providing service to women in leadership.
  10. EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP DOCTORAL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year. Recipient must be a full-time (or part-time taking a minimum 3 credit hrs) must be accepted and enrolled in the Educacational Leadership doctoral program; have completed at least 12 semester credit hours of a doctoral coursework; have and maintian a minimum overall GPA of 3.0; and submit a 1-page essay on why they deserve to receive this scholarship.
  11. DR. SALLIE GRIFFIS HELMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  $1170 per year.  Recipient must be a graduate or doctoral student in good standing; enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours; majoring in counseling; and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0.

DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGE, LITERACY, & SPECIAL POPULATIONS

1. FRANCES ELMER SPECIAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, is seeking to become certified to teach special education students and has at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
2. JESSIE A. LEWIS READING ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Recipient must be a full-time graduate student in good standing and majoring in Reading with the intent to earn an M.Ed. or Ed.D.  GPA of  3.00 is required.
3. TOM AND LOLA MONTGOMERY SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and making a contribution to the organization and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
4. MARY FRANCES PARK ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least 3.0 overall grade point average.
5. ALBERTO SANDOVAL BILINGUAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a student who has been enrolled for at least two semesters at SHSU and is a senior undergraduate student, admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates leadership skills and community involvement, demonstrates commitment to culturally and linguistically diverse populations and to teaching in a bilingual education environment, maintains a membership in the Bilingual Education Student Organization and participates as an officer in the organization, demonstrates command of two languages and maintains at least a 2.8 grade point average.
6. KENNETH E. AND MERLE SCHEFFER ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP: Award to be determined annually. Intended for a full time undergraduate student who has been admitted to the educator preparation program, demonstrates financial need and maintains at least a 3.0 overall grade point average.
7. JACK STAGGS KAPPA DELTA PI SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing enrolled at Sam Houston State University and majoring in elementary or secondary education and be a member of Kappa Delta Pi. GPA of 3.0 is required.
8. DR. LAVERNE WARNER EARLY CHILDHOOD ENDOWMENT: $500 for methods and student teaching senior year. Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student; majoring in EC-4 Certification: Early Childhood Generalists and demonstrate financial need. Scholarship is awarded each February at the Joan Livingston Prouty Young Child Winter Conference. GPA requirement 3.0.
9. DR. BESS OSBURN LITERACY ENDOWMENT: $500 for methods and student teaching senior year. Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student; majoring in EC-4 Certification: Reading and Language Arts, be enrolled in the methods of teaching for the next long semester and demonstrate financial need. Scholarship is awarded each February at the Joan Livingston Prouty Young Child Winter Conference. GPA requirement 2.5.

10. DOROTHY RUTH OWEN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Must be a full time undergraduate student (minimum 12 hours) majoring in Elementary Education, entering sophomore, junior, or senior year, demonstrate financial need, fully admitted to the Educator Preparation Program and maintains over GPA of 3.0.

11. OLIVE AND EDGAR MAY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: $1000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in any program within the College of Education.  Applicants from Trinity, Texas or Trinity County, Texas will be given special consideration.  GPA average of 3.0 is required. 

12. COUNIHAN FAMILY EDUCATIONAL ENDOWMENT FUND: This endowment is being established in honor of members of the Counihan Family to provide financial assistance to selected students who have met the criteria listed.  A recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing and majoring in any program within the Department of Language, Literacy, and Special Populations or the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  They must demonstrate financial need, maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and be of the Catholic faith.  One or more recipients will be chosen each year.  This award will be determined annually.

  1. BETTY ALEXANDER AWARD: Majoring in Kinesiology, completed two years or more with a 3.0 GPA.
  2. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH & KINESIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP: Majoring in health or kinesiology, demonstrating financial need with a satisfactory GPA.
  3. ROBERT L. CASE HEALTH & KINESIOLOGY WELLNESS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Amount of scholarship varies per year.  Recipient must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Health or Kinesiology, display leadership potential, and reflect a high level of physical wellness.  GPA requirement is a 3.0. 
  4. ROY G. MOSS, JR., HEALTH EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Applicant must be a Health Education major, have an exemplary GPA, display leadership potential and be involved in community health issues.
  5. H. O. "MOLLY" CRAWFORD SCHOLARSHIP: Male, junior standing (minimum of 64 credit hours) in kinesiology seeking teacher certification with a 2.5 GPA.
  6. JOE & MARY KIRK SCHOLARSHIP: Male senior standing in kinesiology seeking teacher certification with a 2.8 GPA.
  7. MARGARET POWELL AWARD: Female, senior standing in kinesiology with a 3.2 GPA.
  8. ROBERT J. WAGNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Graduate student in Health or Kinesiology reflecting a lifestyle of physical fitness and demonstrating financial need.
  9. WOMEN'S PHYSICAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: Student in kinesiology of good character with a junior status (minimum of 64 credit hours).

DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY SCIENCE
 

  1. BEATRICE CRAIG SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Amount varies, library science student and/or SHSU library student assistant who has attained junior standing or above, 3.0 GPA or higher, plan to return to SHSU for additional semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  2. BENNIE P. SIMONS SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Award varies, graduate Library Science student, overall GPA of 3.5 or higher, plan to return to SHSU for at least one semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  3. BONNIE BAKER THORNE SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Award varies, graduate Library Science student, overall GPA of 3.5 or higher, plan to return to SHSU for at least one semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  4. GRACE HARRISTON STANDLEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Amount varies, graduate Library Science student, overall GPA of 3.5 or higher, plan to return to SHSU for at least one semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  5. JULIA CROCKETT STANDLEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Amount varies, graduate Library Science student, overall GPA of 3.5 or higher, plan to return to SHSU for at least one semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  6. LESTA NORRIS BURT SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Amount varies, graduate Library Science student, overall GPA 3.5 or higher, plan to return to SHSU for additional semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  7. VIRGINIA GIBBS SMYTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Amount varies, graduate Library Science student, overall GPA of 3.5 or higher, plan to return to SHSU for additional semester following award, financial need may be considered.
  8. JANELLE AVENELL PARIS SCHOLARSHIP: Amount varies; Recipients must be library science graduate students. May be awarded in the summer sessions as well, and financial need will be strongly considered.  GPA requirement 3.5; Application Deadline: Feb. 1
  9. HOMER GLEN COWAN AND BILLIE CAPERTON COWAN EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP: Amount varies; Recipient must be a graduate student of Library Science or Educational Leadership. GPA requirement 3.5
  10. SARA CATHERINE HOWARD - BARBARA LEWIS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: Amount varies; Recipient must be majoring in Library Science and demonstrate financial need. GPA requirement 3.5.
  11. SOPHIE WILLIAMS CLONINGER LIBRARY SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time or part-time (minimum of 6 credit hours per semester in good standing and majoring in Library Science. 
  12. ELIZA VAN CAMP SCHOLARSHIP: Amount varies; Provides for graduate Library Science students to continue academic coursework, overall GPA of 3.5.
  13. ALLENE SUSIE HOLMAN MEMORIAL LIBRARY SCIENCE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time or part-time graduate student taking a minimum 3 credit hours per semester or summer session, in good standing; majoring in Library Science and maintain an overall minimum GPA of 3.0.

NON-SPECIFIC DEPARTMENT WITHIN THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

  1. MARY ANN AND LOUIS MACEY SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate summer school student or a 5th year undergraduate athletic student in good standing and majoring in any discipline within the College of Education; be a member of the SHSU football team; and comply with NCAA requirements.  GPA of 3.00 is required.
  2. FRANKIE WALKER SMITH EDUCATION ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000 per year.  Minimum Scholarship of $1,000 to a full-time undergraduate student, majoring in any discipline within the College of education, maintaining a minimum overall GPA of 2.80 and demonstrate financial need.
