Career Services is here to assist all SHSU students and has multiple online resources available to assist Distance and Online students with career exploration and planning. We provide many resources and services to you as a distance/online learner but also welcome you to come into our office for assistance when you are on campus.

The Woodlands Center

Career Services is also at The Woodlands Center full-time. Cenaiyda Carranza is our Assistant Director for the Woodlands Center and she is available to help you with all of your career services needs.

Cenaiyda has Spring Walk-in Hours and they are:
Tuesday: 9am - 12pm
Wednesday: 2 - 5pm

JOBS for KATS is an online site that will allow you to view and apply for hundreds of full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities. You can also post your resume online for employers to see, find information on upcoming Career Fairs, Expos, information sessions, and apply for on-campus Interviews.

Skype Appointments
If you live outside of the Houston metro and cannot make it into the office to see a counselor face-to-face, a Skype appointment can be made.

Resume and Cover Letter Assistance
If you need help with the creation of your resume and cover letter, please visit our Resume and Cover Letter page. You can also use the resume wizard in JOBS for KATS. Once you've finished your resume and/or cover letter we encourage you to email us a copy and one of highly trained career counselors will help you edit it by making suggestions.

Online Assessments
Multiple career assessments are available to you to enhance and support your own career development process. From obstacles in your career decision-making process to interests, personality preferences, values, and skills related to your major and career path selection, we have online tools for you to help become more aware of who you are as it relates to your steps to finding your profession of choice! Interview Stream (Virtual Mock Interviews)

Conduct an online webcam interview then review your performance. Upon request, a career counselor can also view the interview and offer tips for improving your performance. For more information please see this handout.

Career Fairs and Events

As a distance/online student, you are encouraged to attend our Career Fairs and Events targeted to connect SHSU candidates with employers.

On-Campus Recruiting

Multiple employers post positions on JOBS for KATS and interview candidates here at Career Services (ABIV Suite 210). We have a multitude of on-campus interviews every Fall and Spring for an up to date list click here.
