Pam Laughlin joined Sam Houston State University in January 2003 as Director of Career Services. While her career path has included such job titles as English Teacher, Production Coordinator for an international agricultural company, Medical Technologist, and a Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator, she has worked in higher education and in the field of career development for over 20 years. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Education in Counseling degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University, and is also a graduate of the Management Leadership Institute for Career Planning and Placement from the University of Richmond’s E. Claiborne Robins School of Business Management Institute. Pam is currently pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership at SHSU. As Director, she manages the operational, budget and personnel functions of the SHSU Career Services Center, establishes and directs effective systems for marketing and delivering services to students and employers, and is committed to promoting the continued pursuit of excellence for the department and her staff.
She serves on several university committees and is a leader and active member of numerous professional organizations including the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the National Career Development Association, the Southern Association of Colleges and Employers, the Texas Association for Employment in Education, and the Houston Area Consortium of Career Centers. She has taught the Career Cohort section of University 1301 for the past several years, and in her free time enjoys spending time with family, camping, fishing, kayaking, and attending fine arts events.
