Arica Castleberry joined the Career Services team in October 2013 as a Career Counselor Liaison for the College of Education. She is a lifelong Bearkat, having lived in in the area off and on for over 30 years, and is an alumna, obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2006, followed by a Masters in Higher Education Administration in 2012. She has worked for Sam Houston State University since 2008, when she started as an academic advisor for the College of Education and then transferred to the Student Advising and Mentoring Center (SAM Center) in 2010 as a general advisor and the resident COE advisor. As a Career Counseling Liaison, she provides career counseling, assessment interpretation, resume critiques and mock interview services. Additionally, she utilizes her contacts in the College of Education to gain entry into the classrooms at the three SHSU campuses to present on various topics related to Career Development. Prior to working for SHSU, she spent 13 years working with disadvantaged youth at a private, non-profit organization which housed its own charter school. This is where her love of education and helping others bloomed. During her time at SHSU, she has made every effort to connect the students to their degree plans, programs, resources, faculty, and other staff critical to their overall success, both prior to and after graduation and looks forward to the new opportunities Career Counseling will bring for her to help others. In her free time, she enjoys watching her daughter play softball and spending time with her family.
