Articulation Agreement for 2002 and 2004 Catalogue Years

The Department of Technology at Sam Houston State University was established as a department in 1912 to prepare manual arts teachers. The department still offers a teaching option; however, the curriculum is primarily oriented to providing educational foundations for those people interested in employment in technical or professional positions in industry.

Modern technology is an essential part of the totality of the human experience and as a discipline of study, is a complete part of knowledge. Technology, science, and the humanities interface to create today's body of formal knowledge. Technology is concerned with the use of scientific principles and technological methods to make things happen. Sam Houston State University's Department of Technology offers a broad and diversified, four-year program of study. We prepare students for a variety of careers including Construction Management, Design and Development, Electronics, Industrial Management, Production and Manufacturing, and Sales and Distribution.

Technology students learn to draw upon principles from management, the physical and technological sciences, industry, liberal arts, and basic engineering for the solution of problems involving industrial products, services, and materials management, and industrial processes. The supervision and management of the personnel involved is an important part of the curriculum.

As a general guide, a student may transfer a maximum of 66 hours of credit (including the State Common Core) plus kinesiology credit to Sam Houston State University from a community College. Students should be cognicient of these limitations while completing the Associate Degree. Course listed as “upper level” (numbered as 300 or 400 level in the SHSU Catalogue) must be taken at Sam Houston State University. They may not be transferred from a community College.

The following table lists courses leading towards a concentration/major in Chemistry at each institution.
An * indicates courses that result in dual credit (credit towards graduation from both educational institutions).

In addition to the above courses, all courses in the State of Texas Common Core may be transferred between institutions.

In addition to the Common Core, the following courses will be accepted for transfer credit as indicated toward a major in or minor in Technology subject to the previously specified limitations.

Note: Courses marked as “NA” transfer to SHSU as credit for “content” but do not count as “advanced” hours (junior, senior level) credit either within the major, minor, or general university. “NA” stands for not advanced. The degree applicant must complete sufficient additional “advanced” course work at SHSU to meet all university advanced hour degree requirements.

A maximum of 66 credit hours (excluding kinesiology) may be transferred from a community college to Sam Houston State University. Students should carefully select courses to complete the associate degree while minimizing the number of hours that might exceed the 66 hour cap for transfer credit.

Students may transfer to SHSU at any time as long as they meet SHSU's admission requirements. Students close to completing the requirements for the associate degree are encouraged to consider the potential advantages of completing the associate degree. One way to accomplish this is to transfer courses taken at SHSU back to the community college to complete degree requirements. Properly selected courses may be used to satisfy degree requirements at both institutions simultaneously. The applicant is encouraged to speak to an academic advisor familiar with the programs of all institutions involved to maximize the amount of transferable credit.

1. We have endeavored to make this pamphlet error free. All listings are based on the SHSU 2002-2004 catalogue and Coastal Bend College 2002 catalogue. The respective catalogues are the final word if a discrepancy appears between this pamphlet and a catalogue.
2. To meet Coastal Bend College humanities requirement, the student must include one of the following: ENGL 2332, 2333, 2323; HUMA 1301; PHIL 1304; FREN 2311, 2312; GERM 2311, 2312; SPAN 2311, 2312. Careful selection of courses in other categories will allow the student to meet or minimize these requirements at both academic institutions.
3. SHSU courses with 300 and 400 level numbers are considered as upper division and must be completed at SHSU. Credit may not be transferred from a community college for upper division courses.
