About Us

The Student Advising and Mentoring Center, referred to as the SAM Center, offers a wide variety of services for the students of Sam Houston State University. We offer academic advisement to undergraduates and enrichment services to undergraduate and graduate students. The SAM Center is a resource dedicated to helping students adjust to academic life at Sam Houston State University. Services available include academic advising, aid with time management, study skills seminars, GRE prep, support programs for special populations, and programs for individuals. New programs are being developed on a regular basis.

The SAM Center has grown rapidly since our establishment in 2002: facilities have expanded, personnel have increased, and programs have been added to accommodate the needs of Sam Houston State University students. We find that students are taking advantage of our resources and have benefited greatly. Our programs have been influential in increasing retention and graduation numbers at SHSU.  With a wonderfully accommodating faculty and staff, all students are encouraged to participate in our programs and seek help in all areas of academics.
