The Writing Center at the Academic Success Center in conjunction with Sigma Tau Delta and the Writing in the Disciplines Program strives to identify and recognize excellent writing on the Sam Houston State University Campus.
A. J. Koinm Best Freshman Essay
Each year, the Academic Success Center proudly recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding freshman students through the A. J. Koinm Best Freshman Essay Contest. This contest aims to recognize and encourage students at the beginning of their college careers to continue the development of essential skills, in the spirit of the late Dr. Koinm's practice of encouraging others in their skills and interests. This contest is sponsored by the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, the SHSU English Department, the Writing in the Disciplines Program, and the Academic Success Center.
