Assessments

How do I deploy my test once I've created it?

In the old version, this was done in the test manger.  In Bb 6.0 you simply go to the content area where you want it placed (assignments, course documents, etc.) and use the Add Test button.  Once you've created/selected the test you want and submitted it, you will need to modify the test options to make it available to your students.

I want to upload my own test questions, what format should they be in?

When you are uploading your question straight to Blackboard, the questions should be in Tab Delimited format.  To see how they should be set up, view this example file.

An easier way would be to use the Respondus software we have on campus. To learn more, check out the Respondus software guide and movies.

How do I get my Test Timer to show up when I'm taking a Blackboard Assessment using Firefox?

Don't panic, all you will need to do is change a setting. In Firefox 1.0 go to Tools -> Options -> Web Features -> Advanced. Then the Change status bar text should be enabled.

One of my students had technical problems and was unable to complete a quiz. How do I reset it so he can retake it?

If a student's technical problems submitting a quiz, the instructor can reset the quiz grade and allow the student to retake the quiz through Control Panel > Gradebook. Once in the gradebook click on the red question mark. Click the View button to the right of the quiz information. Then click Clear Attempt.

I have some typos in my Quiz that I'd like to correct, but I have already made my Quiz available and some students have taken it. Is there anything I can do?

Blackboard allows instructors to make come changes to a quiz once it has been deployed, without erasing the scores of students who have already taken it. To make such changes, locate the quiz through the Control Panel in whichever content area you have placed. Click the Modify button, then click the Modify the test link. You will be presented with this warning:

You are about to modify an assessment that students have already taken. Only textual changes to existing fields are allowed, for example to correct a typo or reword a confusing question. Note that after you make textual changes, existing assessment attempts (tests that students have already taken) will show the new text, not the original text.

  • Do not change the number of points for a question.
  • Do not add or remove questions.
  • Do not add or remove answers or feedback.
  • Do not change settings.
  • Do not change attached files

If you need to make any changes other than textual changes, you should create a new assessment. Any changes other than textual changes to existing fields will invalidate existing assessment attempts and could corrupt the entire assessment and its Gradebook entries.

Click the Continue button at the bottom, then, when presented with the Test Canvas, click the Modify button.
