Degree Requirements
The degree requirements for the freshman and sophomore years are essentially the same for all of the majors available with the BBA degree. Following is a listing of the first two years of the BBA program. The courses are given in terms of the common course numbers and the SHSU course number. The SHSU course numbers changed in 2011—both new (four diget) and old numbers (three digit) are listed with the latter included in parenthesis. Please contact the department Chair if you have any questions about a specific program. A list of contact information is provided at the COBA web site.

Total Hours |

All students must satisfy the following requirements before being allowed to enroll in upper-division (3000- and 4000-level) business courses:
A maximum of 66 credit hours (excluding kinesiology) may be transferred from a community college to Sam Houston State University. Students should carefully select courses to complete the associate degree while minimizing the number of hours that might exceed the 66 hour cap for transfer credit. Applications for admission to SHSU may be obtained on line at https://www.applytexas.org/ or by calling Undergraduate Admissions at (936) 294-1828. Extensive information is also available on the SHSU web site at http://www.shsu.edu/. Evaluations are based on each institutions catalogs. The respective catalogs selected for graduation are the final word if a discrepancy appears between this listing and a catalog.
All parties to this agreement are accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
The BBA degree requires a minimum of 120 hours with 42 advanced hours (3000 and 4000 level courses). Additional hours are sometimes added with double majors and/or minors. However, the BBA does not require a minor. All students are required to complete at least six writing enhanced courses accumulating a minimum, of 18 semester hours towards degree completion. Six of the hours must come from the student’s major field of study. SHSU students MUST complete ENGL1301 (ENG 164), ENGL1302 (ENG 165), Core Composite Area 2 (MATH requirement), and one-half of Composite Area 3 (4 hours of laboratory science) prior to enrollment in any upper-level class. Prior to enrolling in core classes, students are encouraged to review specific degree requirements for their major. Selection of major specified core courses may reduce the total number of hours required for graduation.
The Core Curriculum at Sam Houston State University contains 42 semester credit hours, encompassing six component areas. Each component area has a minimum credit-hour requirement and a set of specific courses that may be used to satisfy the requirement. The chart below details the Sam Houston State University courses and their Texas Common Course Number (TCCN) equivalents that comprise SHSU's core curriculum. Course requirements to meet the university foreign language component of the Bachelor of Arts degree have been included for convenience.
Many departments require specific courses from core component areas to meet degree requirements. Selecting departmentally specified core courses to complete university core requirements reduces the total number of hours required to graduate.

Degrees require a minimum of 120 hours with 42 advanced hours (3000-level and 4000-level courses). Some degrees require additional hours. All students are required to complete at least six writing-enhanced courses accumulating a minimum of 18 semester hours towards degree completion. Six of the hours must come from the student’s major field of study. SHSU students MUST complete ENGL 1301, ENGL 1302, Core Composite Area 2, and one-half of Composite Area 3 prior to enrollment in any upper-level class. In general, the Bachelor of Arts degree requires 8 hours of lab science and the Bachelor of Science degree requires 16 hours of lab science. Applicants for the Bachelor of Arts degree should consult their major department web page for foreign language requirements. Many colleges and programs have additional prerequisites for upper-level classes.
Prior to enrolling in core classes, students are encouraged to review specific degree requirements for their major. Selection of major-specified core courses may reduce the total number of hours required for graduation.
Students are encouraged to select the university catalog offering them the most advantages with respect to degree completion. The respective university and/or college catalog selected for graduation determines final degree requirements.
