Robert Biles

Dr. Robert E. Biles (Ph.D., Johns Hopkins)
Professor Emeritus, Lecturer

Dr. Biles focuses his research on women in Latin American politics, political behavior, inter-American relations, and Texas politics. He has done field research in Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Ecuador. On three occasions, he served as a Fullbright Professor in Latin America. In addition to numerous scholarly papers, chapters, and articles, he has published books on inter-American relations and on Texas politics. He has served as president of the Women's Caucus of the Southwestern Social Science Association, as a member of the local school board, as a party county chairman, as a staff assistant to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. At Sam Houston, he has received the University's Excellence in Research Award, the College award for teaching, and the Faculty Senate's first award for Academic Leadership. Biles is an avid fan of political novels, collects wood carvings, and serves as a volunteer coach for the university softball team.
