Careers In Physics

Where do I start when looking for a job?

Broaden your search to jobs other than those that have "physics" in the title. The analytical skills, problem solving intuition, and proof of capacity to confront conceptually challenging material are skills that a physics degree develops. These are highly valued in many diverse fields of employment. Look at the job descriptions and see what interests you.

Set up face to face interviews whenever possible with people in the real world who do things you think you might like to do. These are not job interviews, and it would be inappropriate to frame questions in a manner which implies that this is the case. Rather, these are opportunities for you to compare your expectations against realities, so that careers goals and the necessary courses of action for achieving them may be refined.

Proficieny with computers is a must, and in particular being competent at programming will help.
