Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Training Course

Presented by Sam Houston State University School of Nursing and Office of Continuing Education

A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is a registered nurse who provides nursing care and attends to the medical-legal needs of victims and their families and/or perpetrators of crime, violence, and abuse. A SANE collects forensic evidence and has the ability to provide expert testimony in a court of law. The five-day course familiarizes participants with forensic and health care processes for victims of sexual crimes and abuse. Following successful completion of the training class, participants have the opportunity to schedule their basic clinical dates the following week with preselected physicians in and around the Huntsville area and participate in courtroom observations.
