The Festive Marches

Marcia Roma!, Op. 132, PP.142.5

Marcia Roma! has no date on the score; however, it is one of few marches that can be found in the concert programs - 1866, in this case. The instrumentation is indicative of the fully operational band in Cremona. The April 1 date suggests that this march was intended to enthuse the populace to the return of Rome as the capitol of a unified Italy. Though this would not take place until 1871, the anti-clerical independence movement must have been cheered by this enthusiastic march.
