Teaching the Middle School Band is a dynamic and inspiring workshop designed to explore all aspects of teaching the middle school band. Accomplished teachers and musicians will present sessions addressing all aspects of a successful middle school band program. The workshop will include:
- A track for beginner instrument pedagogy, addressing all wind and percussion instruments
- A track for advancing instrumental pedagogy and ensemble
- Effective administration and communication
The Art of Teaching Music is a comprehensive workshop that brings teachers, performers and students together to explore the highest levels of teaching. Instrument pedagogy, ensemble rehearsal techniques, advocacy, and musicianship will be addressed. Faculty will include Dr. Gary Garner, Frank Troyka, Bob Chreste, Lynne Jackson, Melodianne Mallow, Reagan Brumley, Brian Merrill and Matthew McInturf. Participants may choose to attend offerings from multiple tracks. The workshop will provide an intense, exciting, practical, and inspiring experience for both new and veteran teachers.
New Teachers is one of the tracks in The Art of Teaching Music. It will focus on the needs and interests of recent graduates who are beginning their teaching careers. Lead by Lynne Jackson, new teachers will get an opportunity to work with Dr. Gary Garner, Frank Troyka, Bob Chreste, Melodianne Mallow, Reagan Brumley, Brian Merrill and Matthew McInturf. This workshop offers exceptional preparation for your first year to teach and is an ideal way to begin a successful career. It is also a terrific setting in which to get acquainted with others in the profession and begin to develop a network of mentors and colleagues.
