Department of Library Science

Even as electronic readers like the Kindle replace paper and glue books, the need for professionally-trained school librarians still exists. What librarians do hasn’t changed; how they do it has.

Now more than ever, our students need the help of these expert navigators to help students and teachers find and use information in an increasingly fast-paced and technologically advanced world.

The professional library science curriculum at Sam Houston State University provides graduates with a virtual road map on harnessing technology and the limitless information available to educate and advance the needs of PK-12 schools across the country.

Presented entirely online and designed to prepare competent professionals for school librarianship, the library science program is founded in a variety of professional library skills and multimedia technology. Graduates can earn Master of Library Science degree or School Librarian Certification.

The library science program at Sam Houston State University is a nationally recognized exemplary National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and American Association for School Librarians (AASL) reviewed and approved school librarianship educational program. [what's this?]
