Toni Abshire

Toni AbshireAfter attending Copiah Lincoln Junior College and McNeese State University, Toni Abshire began working for the Office of Faculty Research and Graduate Studies at Sam Houston State University in 1990. Abshire left SHSU in 1994 to pursue an entrepreneurial vision. Soon, though, Abshire returned to Sam Houston, working in several offices from 1995-2006, including the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP). In 2006, Abshire began working for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, where she served for eight years before retiring in 2014.

Abshire worked to remain abreast of changes in her field, seeking out professional development opportunities, exemplified by her earning a Sponsored Project Administration Certification in 2003 through the National Council of University Research Administration. Additionally, Abshire has held membership in numerous professional associations, such as: the Society of Research Administration (SRA), the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Grants Resource Center (AASCU/GRC), the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals (NAGAP), and the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA).

Abshire is married to a SHSU Professor of Marketing, Dr. Roger Abshire. The Abshires have 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and a dog named Oscar.
