Honors Freshman Learning Communities

University 1301

UNIV 1301 is designed to enhance the first-year experience for beginning Honors College students and to increase student success in collegiate studies at Sam Houston State University. Class size is small, usually 25 or less, with a seminar-based pedagogy allowing for relationship building as well as skills enhancement.

Students receive:

  • Academic & personal survival tools
  • An overview to the resources available at SHSU
  • Involvement with other Honors students and the Honors College faculty
  • Personal mentoring & academic advising by Honors College faculty
  • Advanced skills for research and oral presentation, self-reflection writing, and leadership development.
