The Elliott T. Bowers Honors College is a place for highly-motivated students looking for a unique educational opportunity. The Honors College provides these achievement-oriented individuals with
- some financial support
- opportunities to interact with other similarly motivated students
- special course offerings leading to an unusually broad educational experience
- small classes with close contact to our hand-picked faculty
- the opportunity for early registration
- access to distinctively designed facilities.
The Honors College is designed to attract and retain highly competent and motivated students and seeks to create an intellectual and social climate that encourages students to develop their potential both in and out of the classroom. To this end, the Honors College creates a community of scholars, wherein both students and professors interact and challenge each other in developing their abilities.
Specifically, the Honors College provides personalized instruction and mentor-ship opportunities in supporting the University's overall mission of high academic standards and community service. Graduating with Honors from Sam Houston State University provides definite advantages for students entering graduate or professional school, as well as those starting out in their chosen profession.
The Undergraduate Research Symposium
The Undergraduate Research Symposium is a campus wide event for students to present their research in a formal setting. URS occurs every Spring semester.

LET'S TALK! is an annual event for Sam Houston State University's Elliott T. Bowers Honors College. Renowned experts covering engaging topics will come together for a rare evening filled with lively, entertaining and challenging dinner conversation. This is an exclusive opportunity to share ideas within a small group facilitated by a notable host whose passion and in-depth knowledge of the discussion topic will inspire and provide ideas long after the evening is concluded. Guests at the previous LET'S TALK! events were enthralled by the unique opportunity to actively participate in discussions lead by knowledgeable and inspiring leaders covering a wide range of engaging topics.
