Patricia J. Capps
Patricia J. Capps joined the faculty of Sam Houston State University shortly after moving to Huntsville with her husband and daughter in the summer of 1988. Before becoming an Instructor of Speech Communication at SHSU, she received her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, went on to complete her Masters of Fine Arts Degree from Florida State University and finally received her Masters of Arts Degree in Speech Communication from Louisiana Tech University. Her research interests include gender and organizational communication. She has presented at conferences such as The International College Teaching Methods and Styles Conference, The American Society of Competitiveness Conference, The University of Texas Ethics Conference, The Women and Leadership National Conference, and The National Conference on Ethics in America.
She enjoys working with students, and her teaching interests include: Introduction to Public Speaking, Speech for the Business and Professionals, Speech for Teachers, and Oral Interpretation of Literature. Her dedication to students can be seen in her support and sponsorship of student organizations, and she frequently conducts campus workshops for student organizations dealing with current communications issues.
She resides in Huntsville, Texas with her husband and two dogs; though, she frequently visits her daughter in Kansas. She enjoys reading, bike riding, yoga, and pilates.
