What is Academic Community Engagement?
Academic Community Engagement (ACE) is a teaching method that combines community engagement with academic instruction. The ACE initiative allows students to use the skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to make a difference and improve life in our community by understanding their roles as community members.
Examples of ACE Experiences
Science students lead community workshops to increase water conservation and help businesses cut costs.
Foreign language students transcribe information pamphlets in hospitals for non-English speakers.
Education students tutor in public schools.
Marketing students develop a marketing plan for non-profit organizations to generate additional revenue and/or lower costs.
