Academic and Administrative Policies

Program Costs:

The total program cost for a student over the two-year program will be $36,000 for domestic students and $52,000 for international students. The program fee covers tuition, fees, books, double occupancy room during the two-weeks in residence, as well as, breakfast and lunch during the two-weeeks. The only additional fees are the application fee, evening meals, and a graduation fee upon completion of the Executive MBA program. The student will be responsible for providing his/her own computer, Internet access and programs that meet the requirements set out below. Travel costs to and from the program will be the individual responsibility of the student. There are several scholarships available. All students that have applied and been accepted by May 1st will be considered for these awards. There are several external scholarships that require early acceptance. Please contact our office for information on those scholarship opportunities.

The nature of the EMBA program requires purchase of goods and services prior to commencement of the program, therefore $1,000 of the EMBA program fee will be non-refundable after June 15 regardless of whether the student has paid or has not paid the full program fee. The student will be liable, barred, and responsible for $1,000 after June 15. A Commitment Form must be signed and on file for all students accepted into the program.

If you plan to seek financial aide, you should apply well in advance of payment deadlines. You may obtain information on the Graduation Studies website: http://www.shsu.edu/~grs_www/students.html.

Academic Issues:

Catalog Issues:

Since this is conducted as a cohort program, the Executive MBA Program is not available to the in residence MBA students. Sam Houston State University and College of Business Administration reserves the right to change or modify the program or any of its requirements at any time.

Course Grades:

Unlike undergraduate programs, there are basically only four letter grades that can be earned in the normal course of study, and they are A, B, C, and F. No pluses or minuses are utilized in the program. As with all graduate programs of the University, a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (Grade of B) to be eligible to graduate. The grading system utilized for the Executive MBA Program is as follows:

  • A- Excellent
  • B- Acceptable Performance
  • C- Insufficiency in Performance
  • F- Failure
  • CR- Credit for Transfer Courses
  • WP- Withdrawn Passing
  • WF- Withdrawn Failing
  • X- Incomplete Course

The student must earn a “B” or better in FINC 5395.

Academic Probation:

A Student who earns a total of two grades of C in any combination of courses will have his/her graduate status reviewed by a committee of the Graduate Faculty. The committee will determine the advisability of his/her continued enrollment in the Executive MBA Program. A student who earns three grades of C or a grade of F will be terminated from the Executive MBA Program. An appeal on probation or termination issues must be addressed to the Dean of the College of Business Administration.

Academic Integrity:

It should not be necessary to explain to every student the necessity to have integrity and honesty in all of their academic pursuits. The only way that an academic institution can maintain excellence is through a program that insists that faculty, staff, and students conduct themselves on the highest plain.

Any act of cheating, dishonesty, or lack of intellectual integrity will be grounds for dismissal.
