Internships

In a 2008 report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), one-third of the employer respondents surveyed said they would strongly prefer a candidate for employment who had completed an internship over one who had not, while another 21 percent listed work experience as a deciding factor in who they hired.

Students are strongly encouraged to seek internships as a means to gain pre-professional work experience to provide them with the opportunity to gain experience in a particular career field. Internships also supplement academic classes and are frequently used to earn college credit.

An internship is a way to test the waters in a variety of career fields, to gain "real-life" experience, and a way to decide on - or opt out - of a certain vocation. Those interested in pursuing an internship should first read through the Internship Manual

A partial list of potential internship providers is attached, but many other opportunities exist other than those listed here. Students must gain the approval of their faculty advisor prior to engaging in an internship agreement.

 Internship packets are available here.
