Leah Mulligan

Leah Mulligan, Director of Student Activities, is originally from Crockett, Texas. She received both her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2000 and her master's degree in counseling in 2002 from SHSU and is currently working on her Ph.D. in Higher Education. While working to obtain her graduate degree, Mulligan worked for Career Services as the on-campus recruiting coordinator and was in charge of the MonsterTRAK system. Previously, she worked as the assistant director for Alumni Relations, and has lived in Huntsville since 1996. Leah is married to a SHSU Alumni David Mulligan. They recently welcomed a future bearkat into their lives, McKenzie. They also have four dogs: Sam, Bella, Whiskey and Chloe.

Angie Burns
Assistant Director

Angie Burns, Assistant Director for the Department of Student Activities, is originally from Comanche, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2003 with a BBA in Information and Operations Management and from SHSU in 2005 with a Masters's of Education degree in Instructional Leadership. Angie serves as the coordinator for student organizations, is the advisor for the Interfraternity Council and also assists the office in assessment and budgetary matters. She also serves on Staff Council, the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Initiatve, the SHSU Homecoming Committee, the Official Ring Committee, Parking Appeals and the SHSU Memorial Museum Board of Directors. Outside the office, Angie is a member of University Heights Baptist Church, Seven Hills Running Club, and enjoys running, reading, working in the yard, and playing piano. She is also engaged to Trey Taylor, teacher and boys soccer coach at Huntsville High School.

Brandon Cooper
Event Manager

Brandon Cooper, Event Manager for the Department of Student Activities is originally from Huntsville, Texas. He obtained his bachelors degree in Journalism/Public Relations with minors in Mass Communication and French from Sam Houston State University in 2005. Brandon serves as the advisor for the SHSU Panhellenic Association, the coordinator for Leadership/Volunteer efforts at SHSU, and the coordinator for Bearkat Alley for Student Activities. He is also a member of the SHSU Homecoming Committee, the American Democracy Project, and the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Initiative. Currently he is an active member in the Huntsville/Walker County Chamber of Commerce, vice president of the board of directors for CASA of Walker County, and a member of the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary. Brandon is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from SHSU.

Ashley McDonough

Ashley McDonough, Program Coordinator for Multicultural and International Student Services, is originally from College Station, Texas. Before coming to Sam Houston State University, Ashley graduated in 2006 from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in International Studies and Spanish, as well as a double minor in Political Science and History. Currently, Ashley advises such organizations as SAMentors, Students on a Quest for Unity and Diversity (S.Q.U.A.D.), and Diversity Council, which hosts the annual Diversity Leadership Conference on the SHSU campus. Ashley is currently pursuing a Master's degree at SHSU in Public Administration.

Chuck Collins
Program Council Coordinator

Chuck Collins, Program Council Coordinator, began working at Sam Houston State University in the fall of 2007. Before arriving at SHSU, Chuck graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science and minor in Business Administration from Texas A&M University. Chuck advises Program Council, which is the SHSU student programming board. As a group, they plan all on-campus, general student activities delivering a variety of programming varying in focus from entertainment to multicultural to educational. Chuck is also the chair of HAVEN, a GLTBQ safe zone program and is concurrently pursuing his Master’s degree at SHSU in sociology.

Brian McColpin
Spirit Programs Coordinator

Brian McColpin is entering his first year as the Spirit Programs Coordinator. Prior to arriving at Sam Houston State University, McColpin was the Spirit Coordinator for Iowa Western Community College.
McColpin is a staff member for Universal Cheerleader's Association (UCA). He has worked for UCA for the last eight years. He is currently a head instructor and member of the UCA College Staff.. He is a native of Wichita, Kansas and earned an associate’s degree from Coffeyville Community College. He transferred to Morehead State University and received a bachelor’s degree in University Studies with a minor in Women’s Studies in 2005. McColpin says he is "very happy about becoming a part of the Bearkat Family! "
