Sam Houston State University and the Department of Student Activities have been instrumental in perpetuating the ideologies of the ‘Welcome Back Kats” committee, which are to commit to a strong unified reception for Bearkats coming or returning to SHSU. With this intent, Student Activities has worked with community leaders and university personnel to solidify these goals.
Student Activities was responsible for ordering and purchasing the following items: 150 decoration bags filled with: balloons, crate paper and glass paint that was distributed to businesses through out the community. They also purchased 10 large “Welcome Back Kats” banners that have been placed at key entrances and locations through out Huntsville. In addition the department purchased 50 light pole banners for the Huntsville downtown area with attaching orange and white vinyl streamers. Lastly, Student Activities was responsible for purchasing and redesigning 80 of the SH flags that line Sam Houston State University during home football game days and other special SHSU occasions.
The department’s incentives in these efforts are two-fold. The first is to insure that our students are properly received in a warm Bearkat manner, and the second is to continue a strong working alliance with the Huntsville/Walker County community in a continuing endeavor to better university relations.
Student Activities looks forward to continuing a strong working relationship and participation level with the “Welcome Back Kats” committee.
