SHSU Opera

The SHSU School of Music Opera Workshop is a performance ensemble where students learn the vital skills necessary to perform on the operatic stage. The program is comprised of two sections, Opera Workshop and Opera Players. Placement in the sections is determined by audition and based on the student's experience. The Workshop presents a variety of opera scenes, one act operas and full length operas that enhance the students' knowledge of repertoire while giving them an enjoyable environment in which to perform.

Past Opera Workshop productions have included Gian Carlo Mennoti's one act opera THE OLD MAID AND THE THIEF, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE (in Italian with English surtitles), Thomas Pasatieri's SIGNOR DELUSO, Johann Strauss' DIE FLEDERMAUS (Act II), Edwin Penhorwood's TOO MANY SOPRANOS, Puccini's GIANNI SCHICCHI (in Italian with English surtitles), and various other programs which include scenes and arias from opera's most famous works. This semester, the Workshop presents Gilbert and Sullivan's THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE on April 4 and 5th in the SHSU Recital Hall.
