SHSU Dance
The Dance program at SHSU is a part of the Department of Theatre and Dance. BFA, BA, and MFA degrees in Dance are offered, all with emphasis in performance and choreography. Students study daily in the techniques of ballet and modern dance, and have opportunities to enrich their training with jazz, tap, improvisation, choreography, and associated theoretical coursework. Serving approximately 100 undergraduate students, and 12 graduate students, the program presents an average of 10 concert series annually. Recent guest artists have included internationally renowned hip hop artist Rennie Harris, Bill Evans, Marlana Walsh of the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, and NYU Tisch School’s Joy Kellman. Admission to the program is by audition.
The Peasant Pas de Deux, performed by Yayoi Shimada and Larry Lozier, is a lighthearted variation from the first act of the Romantic era ballet, Giselle, with music by Adolphe Adam.
