Chapter History

In the spring of 2002 a group of young women felt the need to be a part of an organization which represented every positive aspect of being a woman.  After relentless research, they luckily discovered Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Incorporated.  As they learned more about the organization, the ladies realized that Lambda Theta Alpha focused on women, regardless of creed or ethnicity.  Their principles of unity, love, and respect matched the criterion of what these ladies looked for in an organization.  Being the 1st Latina sorority ever established was something that these girls knew was prominent.

The Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Incorporated was officially established in Fall 2002.  As a group, we completed more than 600 hours if community service and collected more than 450 canned goods for the homeless during our November food drive.  Because of our hard work and dedication, we were the recipients of the Sam Houston State University Sammy Award for Best New Organization 2002-2003.

On June 8, 2003, Sam Houston State University became the 61st chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Incorporated. Thus, it was named Gamma Xi Chapter. The founding line consists of Stephanie Argueta, Janet Leal, Monica Lara, Lizette Gonzalez, Lucy Gonzalez, Nicole Graves, Jessica Choi, and Luz Maria Mendez.
