Thank you for your interst in graduate English at SHSU. We offer an MA that qualifies students for jc teaching, further graduate studies, enhanced secondary teaching and, of course polite dinner conversation. With about 100 students in various stages of their degrees, the English program is just large enough for diversity, just small enought for an intimacy between students and faculty that one does not often find at larger research institutions. Our standard MA degree requires 36 hours of graduate English to ensure that those who hold the MA in English from SHSU know their subject well, we require that students take classes across a broad range of language interests. While the MA program takes this generalist's approach to English, students may also pursue a creative writing emphasis.
