Sam Houston's Fraternities and Sororities
Kappa Delta Sorority gone. Unfortunately, the Kappa Delta sorority,
which has been on our campus since
1960 and was a local women's society before that for many years, lost their
charter this summer. No one is quite sure what the circumstances are, but that
leaves only four sororities at SHSU: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Chi Omega, Chi
Omega, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Apparently there are two women's groups which might
leaves only four sororities at SHSU: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Chi Omega, Chi
Omega, and Zeta Tau Alpha. Apparently there are two women's groups which might
be interested in forming a sorority, but the process is very different from
fraternities. So we'll have to wait and see. (8/17/95)
Fraternities at Sam Houston. Speaking of greeks on SHSU's campus, in
case you haven't been around for a
while, there are now twelve fraternities. The oldest---Sigma Chi, Delta Tau
Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Alpha, and Alpha Tau Omega (which was
recently re-chartered)---have been joined by Sigma Tau Gamma, Kappa Sigma,
Phi Delta Theta, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Theta Chi, Phi Delta Theta, and most
recently, Sigma Nu. During the years from 1961, Sam Houston had chapters of
Lambda Chi Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, and Delta Sigma Phi, but they have been
gone a long time. (2/23/96)
