He and
fellow SHSU classmates Patrick Scott and Andy Orjuela have just published the
second issue of Archangels," a "top quality, well-designed comic book
touting insights and inspiration instead of pointless violence." The first
issue--"Archangels: The Saga"--has sold extremely well throughout the country
and expectations on the continuation of this endeavor are very favorable. The accomplishment of successfully launching the first issue finally boiled down to Sigma Chi! After having trouble with financing, "the three were fortunate enough to obtain the services of a local accountant who, impressed by their product, arranged a meeting with a potential investor." John, who was wearing his Sigma Chi badge at the first meeting, was pleased to find that the accountant, Jim Jacobsen (Epsilon Psi '89), and the investor, Patrick Stolle (Southwest Texas '86), are both Sigs. Joining these Sigs was Neill Bevill (Epsilon Psi '89), who handled the pre-press color separations; also working as a production assistant on the second issue is Darin Coin (Epsilon Psi '95).
Comments from readers of the first issue are uniformly praiseworthy. From Michigan: "The message you are bringing forth is exactly what kids need to know with all the struggles they face today. My children will read every one of your books." From West Virginia: "The book not only grabbed me with the striking art and colors but with a story that is all too true in our day and age. There is a humanity to it that is expressed in just the first few pages." From another: "What a story. I am impressed. I read and collect about 30 different titles each month and I usually try out most new comer titles. Your comic is one of the best I've seen." From Arizona: ". . .I read everything! From cover to cover & all the fine print! I read it all because it is saying something! I know what you are getting across & how you are presenting it is wonderful!" From Texas: "I was immediately caught up in the story and your comic is one of the best I've seen." From Arizona: ". . .I read everything! From cover to cover & all the fine print! I read it all because it is saying something! I know what you are getting across & how you are presenting it is wonderful!" From Texas: "I was immediately caught up in the story and your unique perspective on life, death, and the struggle between angels and demons. When I got to the biographical section at the back I was pleasantly surprised to find you all thanking God as your inspiration and the source of your talents." The second issue will be available by mid-October. (9/29/95)
