SHSU Zetas are avid about raising funds and investing time in our philanthropy, Breast Cancer Research and Awareness. From participating in local efforts including the Walker County Mammography fund, to our Crown Classic golf tournament, which raised over $16,500 last year, Zetas truly invest their time, and more importantly, their hearts in this worthwhile cause.
Breast Cancer strikes approximately 1 in 8 women, we have encountered mother, sisters, and friends impacted by this disease.

ZTA alumnae joined the collegians of the Delta Zeta Chapter to help organize Sam Houston State University’s inaugural Kats for the Cause event during Fall 2007, promoting breast cancer awareness and education. Leading up to the event, members of both the alumnae and collegiate chapters sold thousands of pink t-shirts with ZTA prominently displayed on the back and raffle tickets for travel accommodations and golf clubs. Alumnae and collegians also worked together at the hugely successful Kats for the Cause 5K Race/Walk the morning of the event and at the “pink out” tent during tailgate activities prior to the SHSU football game where breast cancer educational materials were distributed. Kay Mitchell, a long-time member of the alumnae chapter -- who is also a breast cancer survivor -- served as one of the honorary co-captains of the SHSU Bearkat football team that evening. Proceeds from the event were donated to the ZTA Foundation for the support of breast cancer awareness and education.
