I. Kappa Delta Pi, an Honor Society in Education, was founded on March 8, 1911, at the University of
Illinois. At the present time, there are 293 campus chapters and 29 alumni chapters in the Society.
II. The Motto of Kappa Delta Pi is "Knowledge, Duty, Power."
III. The Colors of Kappa Delta Pi are Jade Green and Violet.
IV. The Purpose of Kappa Delta Pi shall be to encourage high professional, intellectual, and personal standards and o recognize outstanding contributions to education. To this end it shall invite to membership such persons as
exhibit commendable personal qualities, worthy educational ideals, and sound scholarship. It shall endeavor to maintain a high degree of professional fellowship among its members and to quicken professional growth by
honoring achievement in educational work. Article 1, Section 2, Constitution and By-Laws 1964).
V. The Society subscribes to Four Ideals: Fidelity to Humanity, Science, Service, and Toil. These ideals are characterized by the following abbreviated statements:
Fidelity to Humanity implies a faith in the thesis that young and old of every race and creed should, through continuous education based on equal opportunity for all, enjoy the right to physical health, social intelligence,
and economic justice.
Science in education implies free inquiry and the deletion of prejudice and superstition in both research and the application of findings.
Service, the incentive of the world's greatest teachers, implies that we will lose ourselves and so find ourselves in ceaseless effort to advance justice and peace for all people.
Toil is consciously involved in the other ideals and through toil we involve the social necessity of our
Profession.
VI. INVITATIONS TO MEMBERSHIP - Individuals are invited to become members of the Society
by vote of the Chapter because of high records and an exhibited professional attitude which would
enable one to grow in the field of education. Personal attitudes toward life and teaching are also considered. Selections are impartial without qualifications of sex, religion, race, or color. Membership is offered on the assumption that an undergraduate intends to complete certificate requirements in education and student teaching, and that a graduate student has completed twelve hours of graduate work in education.
VII. PRIVILEGES OF MEMBERS - One who has been elected to membership in Kappa Delta Pi
remains a member for life, and an active member if he pays his annual dues. If one wishes he
may, upon payment of the stipulated fee, become a life member, with no further payment of fees.
A member is welcome to attend any or all of the meetings of the chapter into which he was initiated
and the meetings of any other chapter of Kappa Delta Pi. He may also attend the annual national
dinners of the Society and session of the biennial Convocation.

Although his name is recorded permanently in the General Office of the Society as a member of the chapter into which he was initiated, he may, upon vote of the chapter concerned, be invited to become an active member of another chapter with all the rights and privileges of that chapter. All members receive the EDUCATIONAL FORUM upon payment of their membership fees. The FORUM is a highly acclaimed Kappa Delta Pi publication.
VIII.RESPONSIBILITY OF MEMBERSHIP - Each privilege has with it a mutual responsibility.
Members are expected to maintain the ideals of the Society, to strive to extend its influence and to
make the work of the society a major interest. Regular attendance at meetings and participation in the activities and programs are expected. The Society as a whole prospers and its influence is felt in the degree that the individuals in the chapter are developed educationally and professionally.
IX. The Supreme Governing Body of the Society is the Convocation which is held biennially. In it all
chapters are represented.
There are seven members of the Executive Council, chosen by the Convocation for two-year terms.
These are the President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Advisory Counselor, Laureate
Counselor, Alumni Counselor, and Student Counselor.
The Council is charged with the responsibility of directing the general policy of the Society, subject to
ratification by the Convocation. Major items between convocations are submitted to the chapters for their approval or disapproval. The Executive Council elects the Executive Secretary of the Society and the Editor of the Kappa Delta Pi publications. The general office of Kappa Delta Pi is located in Indianapolis, Indiana .
X. The LAUREATE CHAPTER, composed of distinguished educators, was formally installed on February
23, 1925. Nominations for members in the Laureate Chapter may be made by active chapters, the
