The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University anticipates filling one or more tenure-track positions in Mathematics, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, pending funding. Candidates should have a PhD in Mathematics, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to quality teaching, research, and academic service. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement those of current faculty; however, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

One of the fastest growing universities in Texas, Sam Houston State University is located in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston in the Piney Woods region of East Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 16,400 and 650 faculty. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 26 tenured or tenure track faculty positions in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. The BA, BS, MA, & MS degrees are offered in Mathematics. A PhD in Mathematics Education is currently at the approval stage at the state level. Position: AARC Math Program Director

Starting Date: As soon as possible.

Job Description: Responsible for developing and administering the AARC Mathematics Program, one of four tutor programs in SFASU's Academic Assistance and Resource Center, in addition to other duties essential to the success of the Center. Hires, trains, schedules and supervises math tutors. Communicates with faculty. Collects and maintains statistics. Prepares budget requests necessary to support assigned activities and informational sessions. Contributes to news releases, informational brochures and other promotional materials. Represents the AARC through presentations at professional conferences. Develops new programs of service in response to changing needs of the SFA academic community.

Professional Requirements or Special Skills: A master's degree in mathematics or mathematics education is required with a minimum of three years teaching experience. Must possess organizational skills to adequately manage simultaneous projects and supervisory responsibilities. Must have ability to work productively and collaboratively with student assistants, tutors, clients, faculty, colleagues and administrators. Must have ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Minimum Salary: $40,000/yr.
