Question: What is your overall opinion of the board's value as an instructional tool?
I truly enjoy using it as an educator. The appeal it has to students it high - they love coming to the library and the lab. It can be a part of a great introductory piece to a unit or it can be an ending product. There are so many possibilities with the SmartBoard.
It has great possibilities, but only if built into each teachers classroom as a permanent fixture.
I think it is the most important tool I have in the lab for group instruction.
EXCELLENT-love it
This is a great investment, in my opinion. All of the teachers want one for their room! ;-)
I think it's great. I love it and so do the students
I think it is the 21st centuries answer to the blackboard and should be in every classroom with in the next few years.
I wouldn't say it's essential but it's definitely beneficial. As I said I'm thinking of new ways to utilize it everyday. The kids are disappointed if I don't use it.
I think it is absolutely wonderful. I wish we could afford more in our building. If the students could use it more, it would be even better.
Every classroom should have one. The strategies for use are endless.
Question: Do you think, in view of the cost of necessary equipment, it is a wise acquisition--would you recommend that others make it a priority purchase? |
For my community, it is a great investment. I have parents and teachers that want the 'cutting edge' in everything.
No, unless permanent addition to classroom.
Absolutely!
Absolutely!
Yes
YES!
| I think it's a purchase that should come after basic technology equipment
is in place. We got our 1st one through a grant and part of the cost of the 2nd one was a grant. The problem was our teachers weren't ready for it. A few of us who are technically integrated use it but it would sit unused until the staff is ready. Now we have more teachers trained with our software and are more willing to give it a go. |
It depends on the technology plan for the district. If the plan includes interactive lessons, it would be worth it, because it can really engage a class. If a building only has one or two computers in a room (no lab) , this would be a cost-effective way to extend the technology so that everyone can participate and "see" what is going on. However, if you don't use the interactivity (or "touching" ) component of the board, you might as well just buy a movie screen.
Yes. Replace the chalk board with a Smart Board when building new schools.
Question: Please add any additional comments, teaching tips, etc. which might be useful to fellow users or potential users.
Teachers have to have adequate time to learn how to use these things. If we dont build in the time, they wont use them. Its just that simple.
We use our boards a lot for meetings and parent presentations. Everyone who sees it in use is so impressed with it's capabilities. It makes presentations so much more professional because of its ease of use and your ability to stand in front of your audience while presenting.
I use mine all the time. Sometimes I multi task with my overhead and the SMARTboard. It's great for teaching computer applications. I also use it with Inspiration. I'll set up a writing assignment and have students brainstorm with the markers. My students love to present with it as well. I've getting better each time I use it. They complain if I project on the overhead screen and not the SMARTboard now. I'm short so I like being able to adjust it to my size and actual be able to point out information.
