Do you want your text to read down rather than across?
Use Excel, not Word, then paste back into Word if wanted.
1. Open new worksheet
2. Type Text
3. Right click on that cell and go to Format Cell
4. Adjust text direction...Use Orientation tool.

Templates
Do you often use the same format for budgets, etc? Remember to save formatting by saving a worksheet as a template...just select from the SAVE AS option in Excel.
